Literature Text

Kurt adjusted his bag on his aching shoulder. They had way too many textbooks at this school, it was like they were trying to permanently impair their students.
"Hey Kurt!" He turned his head and stopped to wait for Blaine who jogged down the hall after him, narrowly avoiding crashing into three students on the way. He smiled to himself at Blaine's frantic expressions and muttered apologies as he weaved through the sea of people.
"So," he said, breathing a little heavily as he finally reached Kurt's side. The sight of him made Kurt's stomach flip a little; a feeling he was sure he'd never get used to. "You were right." Kurt smoothed his hair back and the two resumed walking together.
"I usually am," Kurt teased. "What particular instance are we talking about here?"
"Me," Blaine answered. "Being gay." Kurt's sarcasm evaporated and he glanced at the floor.
"Oh, that."
"Yeah. That."
"Listen Blaine, I'm really sorry. I should have just supported you and-" Blaine held up his hand, silencing him.
"Say no more. Really Kurt, it's fine. I overreacted. I was just feeling really confused and I took your opinion way to personally." Kurt knew this wasn't true; he'd been incredibly insensitive. It was only because Kurt felt the whole Blaine situation was hopeless enough as it was, he didn't need to worry about girls as well as gap guys who needed haircuts. However, he also knew there was no point arguing with Blaine on matters such as this, so instead, he just smiled.
"Thanks." Blaine just shrugged. "So, we managed to survive our first fight," Kurt said, nudging Blaine's shoulder. He laughed.
"Hopefully the last," he said.
"You'd think you'd know me better than that by now. I'm not the most agreeable person," Kurt said sarcastically. "Some people have even gone as far as to call me stubborn, not that I have any clue what they're talking about." Blaine scoffed. "So it will not be the last, but that's okay. Our disagreements will make us stronger and," he glanced over at him shyly, debating whether or not he should say it. "Closer." Blaine shot Kurt a small smile, but said nothing, leaving them in a detestably awkward silence.
"So," Kurt said, changing the subject. "Are these books killing your shoulders, or is that just me?" Now Blaine really smiled.
"I know! Are they trying to disable us?" Kurt grinned at how similar they're thoughts were.
"Exactly. I-"
"Blaine!" Both boys glanced over their shoulders as Wes ran up to join them. "I need to talk to you about the arrangement for regionals," he peered over Blaine's shoulder. "Oh, hey Kurt." Kurt smiled and gave him a nod of acknowledgement. "I was thinking we should do…" And they were off. Kurt knew better to interject with ideas. His were always too extravagant for the Warblers.
"I'll see you later Blaine," Kurt said, knowing that he had already been excused from the conversation.
"Hmm? Oh, bye Kurt." He sighed and turned a corner. He thought it was great that Blaine was so enthusiastic about regionals. In fact, he loved how seriously all of the Warblers took the competition, but he selfishly wanted Blaine all to himself, and wasn't to good at sharing. Students were starting to disappear into classes and the hallway was getting easier to walk down. Kurt walked past the choir room and stopped, turning around and looking through the door. It was temptingly empty. When was the last time he'd sang by himself, just for fun? What the hell, he thought, walking in and sitting down at the piano. I have no class right now anyways. He ran his hands randomly over the keys, listening to the notes go up and down. He played bits and pieces of random melodies and practice playing a note, then singing it back. He smiled, unable to resist. This was where Kurt belonged and it had been too long he'd been away from it. The only thing that could better this moment was a song.
"Oh school is boring," he sang, making up some tune on the piano. "I'm so glad I'm not in class right now." There was a crash behind him and his hand flew of the keys in surprise and embarrassment. He spun around on the seat to see the source of the noise. A flustered looking, blonde boy, around Kurt's age, was bent over just outside the room quickly and clumsily picking up his books.
"Sorry," he said, standing up. "I just-" His books clattered to the floor again and Kurt raised his eyebrows before taking pity on him and walking over to help. As he handed the boy his books, he examined him. A little tall, blonde, as he noticed before, but a dirty kind of blonde that was almost light brown, and blueish green eyes. He was good looking, but was he gay? After a couple more seconds of examination Kurt decided this boy could be either. His hair was nice enough to have been styled, but it could also just look like that. He wore the blue and red uniform that matched Kurt's, but his tie was missing.
"Sorry to interrupt you," the boy said nervously. "I was just looking for…"
"Your class?" He looked down, embarrassed.
"No, actually. This is my spare. I was looking for the library." Kurt laughed.
"You're new."
"It's that obvious, huh?"
"Hardly. Well, yes, it is, but for me especially. I'd know that disheveled, nervous, fish out of water look anywhere. Kurt Hummel," he said, holding out his hand. "I'm a fairly new addition myself." The boy smiled.
"Logan Christopher." They shook hands. "It's such a relief to know I'm not the only one who's new." Kurt smiled kindly. He felt compelled to help this boy the way he'd been helped when he'd first arrived at Dalton.
"Don't worry, Dalton will feel like home in no time. Everyone's very welcoming here. I'd be happy to show you around if you'd like. Maybe help you find the library?" Logan laughed shyly.
"That'd be great, thanks." Kurt grabbed his bag and the boys left the choir room.
"So what brings you to Dalton," Kurt asked, as they waked down the hall.
"My family just moved here from Michigan. I went to a private school there as well, but it was co-ed." Kurt nodded
"My old school was co-ed as well, but it was public. I have to say I miss the girls sometimes. Everyone here, is great, but no one gets me like girls," Kurt joked, trying to subtly get Logan to reveal his sexuality.
"Oh, I didn't have any problem with the girls, they were great. But my parents…" Kurt gave him an odd look. It sounded like he was straight, and his parents wanted him to be gay. What an unusual situation that would be.
"You're parents don't like girls," Kurt asked skeptically.
"Not exactly. The problem was that I had lots of friends that were girls, but no girlfriends." Realization spread over Kurt.
"So you're..."
"Gay." And cute.
"And you parents don't support you?"
"They....are kind of in denial."
"And they think sticking you in a school of boys is going to turn you straight?" He chuckled.
"In their minds, if there are no girls, then it's understandable that I don't have a girlfriend."
"That's a little...."
"Naïve? I know, but, I'm not really complaining. So far, the people here seem very nice." Kurt smiled at him and he smiled back.
"Here we are," Kurt said, gesturing to the library door. "What is it you need from the library? You don't have homework already?" Logan shook his head.
"I actually just need a place to hang out until lunch, where I can sit by myself without people finding out that I don't actually have any friends" Kurt looked at him. He was nice, and cute. Kurt liked him, and he wasn't getting anywhere with Blaine. Logan reached his hand out to the door handle. I may as well expand my horizons a bit.
"You want some company?" Logan looked up in relief.
"I was hoping you'd say that."

Blaine yawned as he turned the corner. That last class had really taken a lot out of him. He needed food, badly. Normally, he and Kurt ate lunch together, but he was having an unusually hard time finding him. Blaine pulled out his phone as he pushed through the library door.

Kurt, where are you? I'm starving!

He was about to hit send when the sound of familiar laughter made him look up. Kurt, he though. Finally. Blaine began to walk towards him, but as he got closer, he saw that Kurt wasn't alone. This made sense when Blaine thought about it; he wouldn't be laughing by himself.
"Kurt?" He turned as Blaine approached the table.
"Oh hey Blaine," Kurt said happily.
"Hey," Blaine said distantly, he was more focused on this stranger who had been making Kurt laugh like that. That, dare he say, flirty laugh, he'd only heard Kurt use a few times before. He had dirty blonde shaggy hair and blue green eyes. He was...handsome, if you liked that kind of thing, which Blaine didn't; he preferred something more....delicate. He turned his gaze on Kurt.
"I was looking for you," he said simply.
"Hmm? Well, I was here, reading." He gave the boy a look and they both snickered at some joke. Blaine cleared his throat, annoyed.
"Oh! Blaine, this is Logan," he said, resting his cheek on his hand in a way that made Blaine frown at him in disbelief. "Logan, this is my friend Blaine." Logan smiled at him.
"Hey. Nice to meet you."
"Yeah," Blaine replied, shaking his hand. "So, are you knew or-"
"Brand new," Kurt cut him off. "He just got here today. Stumbled into the choir room by accident and dropped his books about five times."
"Two times," Logan corrected him.
"Same thing." The two boys grinned at each other and something unrecognized stirred in Blaine.
"So Kurt," he said, very obviously turning his back to Logan. "I wanted to talk to you about regionals."
"Regionals," Logan asked. Could he not take a hint? "Are you guys on a team?" Blaine rolled his eyes, but Kurt's face lit up happily.
"Glee club. You sing?"
"Nah, not really. It's cool that you do though." Blaine sighed loudly and shoved his hands in his pockets. Something about this new kid got on his nerves. Why did Kurt even like him. He didn't sing, or seem like the kind of person interested in shopping; what could they possibly talk about? He should just ask Kurt to lunch and get out of here.
"Hey Kurt," Logan said before Blaine could even open his mouth. "You want to grab some lunch? I'm getting kind of hungry." What?! That was supposed to be his line. He and Kurt always had lunch together. Whatever, Kurt would turn him down anyway.
"Sure," Kurt said, standing up. Blaine struggled not to gape at him. He was bailing on their lunch for this guy?! What the hell?! Logan was standing now too and he walked past Blaine towards the door.
"Bye Blaine," he called. "It was nice to meet you." Kurt picked up his bag and shot Blaine an exited grin as he passed. Then they were both gone. Blaine stood in the library frowning. What had that grin be about? Kurt was exited about this guy? Was he even gay? It didn't matter. He was all wrong for Kurt. Blaine felt like he'd swallowed a golf ball and his stomach was swimming. What was going on? Maybe I'm coming down with something. He placed the back of his hand on his forehead, checking for a fever. When he found none his frown increased. He had been feeling fine before he'd started talking to Kurt and Logan. The sick feeling intensified and Blaine had to struggle to resist making a choking sound. Something wasn't right. He glanced around the library before swiftly walking out the door in frustration.
